A case of giant sebaceous hyperplasia on the scalp of a young adult

Giant sebaceous gland hyperplasia is a relatively rare condition revealing the same histological findings to sebaceous gland hyperplasia, but on a larger scale. A 34 year-old male patient presented with an asymptomatic, solitary, 1 × 0.4cm sized, erythematous nodule on the occipital area, which had developed 5 years ago. The initial impression was a trichilemmal cyst, epidermal cyst or folliculitis. Histopathologically, grouped hyperplastic sebaceous glands and a central dilated duct was observed, with Demodex brevis in one of the smaller glandular ducts. The lesion was completely removed by excisional biopsy and no sign of recurrence has been noticed to date. We report a case of giant sebaceous gland hyperplasia with Demodex brevis of the sebaceous duct on the scalp of young adult.
