Abstract

Background: Pentadecanoic glyceride is one of the recently introduced treatment modality for male pattern alopecia. We have compared the efficacy and hair regrowth of pentadecanoic glyceride between treatment group and placebo group of male pattern alopecia. Methods: 103 patients of male pattern alopecia were treated with topical pentadecanoic glyceride twice a day for 24weeks. Subjective and objective clinical symptoms were assessed at the start, 12weeks and 24weeks each. Hair growth were measured by photographic quantitative method at the start, 12weeks and 24weeks and the number of regenerating hair was counted. Results: Treatment group showed statistically significant increase of hair growth at 24weeks. Treatment group showed improvement of clinical symptoms. Conclusion: Topical application of pentadecanoic glyceride was found to be effective for the treatment of male pattern alopecia.
