Abstract
Background: The purpose of this study is to assess and compare the efficacy and safety of Benzac® AC Wash 5% and its vehicle in treating acne vulgaris. Method: Among 30 patients suffering from acne vulgaris, 20 patients was treated with Benzac® AC Wash 5% and 10 patients with its vehicle. Efficacy was evaluated based on counting acne lesions weekly for 4 weeks. Results: The decrease in the number of lesions was significantly higher in the patients treated with Benzac® AC Wash 5% from 3 weeks compared with the patients with its vehicle, especially in the number of noninflammatoty lesions. The cutaneous adverse reactions revealed no significant differences in both groups. Conclusion: The results of treatment with the topical Benzac® AC Wash 5% in this study suggest that this preparation might be an effective topical therapeutic regimen with good tolerance in patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris.
