Abstract

A number of polysaccharide microspheres were examined as coating polymers for the pH-sensitive drug delivery and enzyme sensitive drug release. Pullulan and lactan gum showed pH sensitivity, so they can be useful as enteric coating material. An alginate bead coated with dextran acetate showed minimal drug release in the absence of enzyme by significant drug release in the presence of enzyme. Therefore, these beads can be good candidates as colon targeting material.
