Abstract
In 1992, Goh et al. [1] first reported a laparoscopic gastrojejunostomy as a reconstruction procedure following laparoscopic gastrectomy for a benign gastric ulcer. Since then, the indications for laparoscopic gastrectomy have been extended to include gastric cancer. In 1995, Kitano et al. [2] used an extracorporeal gastroduodenostomy with manual suturing as a reconstruction procedure for distal gastrectomy. The improvements in stapling devices contributed to the easy access to the site of operation. Since first establishing totally laparoscopic Roux-Y gastric bypass surgery for morbid obesity [3], an increasing number of laparoscopic surgeons have modified this technique. In 1999, Uyama et al. [4] reported a totally laparoscopic Roux-Y reconstruction procedure for gastric cancer surgery in which an intracorporeal, antiperistaltic gastrojejunostomy was performed using linear stapling devices. Takaori et al. [5] reported another totally laparoscopic Roux-Y reconstruction procedure to prevent torsion of the jejunal loop.
