Abstract
A simple and rapid head-space gas chromatography method was investigated for the simultaneous quantitation of allyl alcohol, ethanol, and their metabolites, acrolein, and acetaldehyde. The method allowed the complete separation of four compounds and showed a calibration curve with good linearity. The hemolysation method was tested for good recovery of aldehydes with high reactivity and instability in blood. It was proposed that 20% blood concentration was most suitable to quantitate these compounds over the physiological concentration ranges. However, acrolein was recovered poorly from the blood matrix because of its high reactivity and instability in biological samples.
